One thing could work in our favor.


The NCAA used to (and I believe still does) have a minimum stadium capacity to host a softball regional. I think the minimum might be 1000 permanent seats (temporary bleachers do not count). It is possible some teams ahead of VT might not have the stadium capacity and thus, is not eligible for hosting. That would move VT up the hosting list.

This happened back in the Tincher days. VT would have hosted two years, but did not have the stadium size, so never got to host. That pushed VT to expand the softball stadium so that is no longer an issue.
